2015 has been a good year to me in terms of tv shows, Asian dramas, and of course, books. The first half of the year was spent mostly on books, while tv shows and dramas dominated my attention towards the end of the year. There were hits and misses, and fortunately majority of what I’ve seen and read were hits. So here I’m listing my top favorites in the year 2015!
Please take note that I don’t follow dramas weekly, instead, I wait for the whole drama to finish before watching them in one sweep. This list is in no particular order.
This drama was a surprise for me. I wasn’t a Park Yoo Chun fan but after this I certainly became one. The story, the characters, even the villain, were amazing.
Two things I’ll never forget in this drama? How action packed this was and how adorable and seemingly real the couple this drama has. Gosh, Ji Chang Wook can kiss. Whew.
It was a pity this drama only had 2 episodes, but I guess that’s better than having more and then disappointing the viewers along the way. It was a perfect quick watch and I would love to see the main couple do another drama again, maybe with more episodes haha!
This was the bomb of the dramaworld in the first half of 2015. If you’ve known Ji Sung and Hwang Jung Eum tandem then you’ve prolly already know why it’s worth watching this. If not, well I think you should start knowing from this drama. IT WAS AMAZING. SO SO GOOD.
5. Angry Mom
I was not expecting anything from this drama at all when I started this. Actually, I’ve put off watching this even after learning it’s completion. I don’t know, I wasn’t a fan of the main lead that’s why this never piqued my interest. BUT now I am so regretting why I’ve waited for so long before seeing this. This is a melodrama that dealt with pretty serious things and this drama showed it so well.
6. Hogoo’s Love
I dove into this drama expecting a cutesy and lovey dovey story. What I didn’t expect was how real this show portrayed a girl’s journey from being abused to dealing with her life whilst being a single mom. It does contain cute moments, I mean REALLY cute moments so it was actually a mix of a lot of things.
7. Oh My Venus
I was supposed to wait for the next year to come if I were to follow my “wait to finish the whole drama before watching” rule, but vacation isn’t helping including how my friends are talking about how good this was. OH MY LORD. I was giggling like a maniac every episode. This show was a rollercoaster of emotions so watch out for your heart okay? And So Ji Sub’s abs? Oh my~~~
8. Kiss Me Thai
This was the Thai version of Japan’s Itazura na Kiss, and Korea and Taiwan’s It Started With A Kiss. I was looking forward to this one because the couple starring on this drama were the same couple who recreated Song Hye Kyo and Rain’s Full House. Although this version’s somewhat different from the usual story of ISWaK, I liked it because the couple’s chemistry is overflowing every episode, AND the guy wasn’t that much of a jerk.
Anyone here a fan of Siwon from Super Junior?? Watch this.
You ever wonder what it would look like if Kill Me Heal Me’s sibs got together? Watch this.
Park Seo Joon’s new fan? Duh. Watch this.
Want to see a drama where you won’t hate a single character til the end? WATCH THIS.
10. Oh My Ghost
I’ve loved Park Bo Young ever since I’ve seen her in Speedy Scandal that’s why I was really looking forward to this one. I’ve never seen her on a drama and the story was really interesting that’s why I immediately started this right after it wrapped its last episode, and I wasn’t disappointed. I loved everything in this drama I watched it 3 times already, and counting. I even convinced my bestfriend to watch this and now I’m watching it again with her hehe.
Please take note that I don’t follow tv shows weekly, instead I wait for a whole season to finish before watching them in one sweep. This list is in no particular order.
2. American Horror Story
If you don’t fancy watching horror shows because your imagination runs wild don’t worry, this show is so much more than the scare. And it’s worth a few screams too. Trust me, I’m the type of person who sings in the shower because it keeps me from imagining there’s something watching me from behind.
3. Downton Abbey
I decided to watch this in one go after I learned that this show’s wrapping up this year.
I don’t think I’ll ever get over that one character’s death. Clue: it’s a male cast. T.T
I started watching this show last year and it was so worth it. I managed to watch from season 1 to season 10 without getting bored, I even convinced my bestfriend to try this and now she’s hooked too.
5. Game of Thrones
Do I have to explain why? Really?
6. Once Upon A Time
This show has a lot of hits and misses but what can I do? I will
always forever be a fan of fairy tales.
Curiosity brought me to this show and now I’m hooked. It’s hard to explain how addicting this show was without spoiling you so try it instead.
8. Grey’s Anatomy
The last season was enough to break my heart to pieces.
9. 2 Broke Girls and New Girl
These two shows were my go-to whenever I need a quick boost in my mood.
10. The Walking Dead
If you’ve been following me on twitter then you’d know that I’m still on season one. I just finished season one and started season two few days ago, and I think I know now what kept people on coming back to this show. If you haven’t seen this and you’re curious, go try it.
You might be thinking “Ella you should keep up with the new tv shows because they are the bomb”. Yes, I’ve seen the first few episodes of Outlander, iZombie, Elementary, Jane the Virgin, Scandal, etc. but haven’t finished a whole season yet that’s why they aren’t on this list.
Not everything in this list are books published in 2015, there will be some but not all. I’m also including favorite series I was able to read and finish this year.
This book left me staring blankly at my wall for a while after finishing it. It was that good.
I know this series wasn’t that great, BUT I read this at the time when I needed something light and easy to read. I liked how simple it was, and I don’t regret enjoying this one.
I heard mixed reviews on this one and I gotta say I belong those who liked this one, not loved, but liked and enjoyed Red Queen. It was my first audiobook too that I was able to finish, and I’m really excited for Glass Sword!
THIS ONE WAS AMAZING. I wasn’t an avid fantasy reader, but this book made me one. I was on a terrible reading slump when Amir recommended me this book, and that was it, I was hooked!
I was a little late to this party but better late than never right? And wow, this was amazing.
Wanna ugly cry and tear your heart to pieces? Read this
You already know how much I love Penny Reid so it wasn’t a surprise when I enjoyed this one. I can’t wait for the sequel! These two definitely should write more
9. Every Penny Reid book I’ve read this year. (Truth or Beard, Elements of Chemistry #1: Hypothesis, Beauty and the Mustache)
I mean, really? Do I have to explain myself?
It took me a year? or two? before picking up this one. Dre recommended it to me when we first met and it never left my mind. I’m so glad I never forgot. Raffe and Penryn? Best otp of my 2015. (wait, should I make a list too?)
*Goodreads reading challenge update: As of 12/29/2015 I still have 10 books left before I could make my goal of 100 books this year. I don’t think it’s possible to achieve my goal in two days so I guess I’ll have to do better next year. 😀
What are your favorites this year? Any good reads? Tv shows? Dramas? I wanna know!
